Qantas weighs in after symbols on engine covers stir up conspiracy theorists
Eagle-eyed conspiracy theorists have spotted a series of symbols on Qantas engine covers, which are linked to centuries-old secret societies. The engine covers are black and have yellow tape across them, depicting a variety of shapes and symbols like smiley faces and emojis. But two covers in particular caused a stir on social media.
Curious members of the public contacted 9 News after an article published yesterday regarding the Australian airline’s $2 billion losses for the financial year due to the coronavirus. A photo in the article showed the engine covers with the image of the square and compasses, a symbol commonly associated with the Freemasons. Another engine cover shows the Eye of Providence, a symbol used in many religions but often associated with the infamous Illuminati group. On Reddit, some suggested the images were photoshopped, while others assumed it was Qantas having a laugh.
“It’s a joke by the ground crew to f— with conspiracy people on the internet,” one Reddit user said.” I’m all for it, whoever did this is a legend.”
With imaginations running wild over the images, Qantas weighed in on the conspiracy theories .A representative told Nine.com.au it was just staff being creative. “Aircraft engine cover art is a thing,” they said. “As you can see, the yellow tape can sometimes be used quite creatively. “We’ve obviously got a few engineers who are fans of The Da Vinci Code, but we’ve asked them to stick to emojis and smiley faces.”
