Good evening Quarrymen
Coming to YouTube this weekend …
Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, symbolizes both the grandeur and tragic downfall of this medieval military order. Founded in 1118 to protect Christian pilgrims, the Templars rose to prominence, amassing wealth, influence, and autonomy that eventually provoked envy and opposition from kings and the Church. De Molay’s tenure as Grand Master saw the Templars embroiled in a series of conflicts culminating in their persecution by King Philip IV of France and Pope Clement V. Arrested in 1307, de Molay endured imprisonment and torture, ultimately recanting forced confessions before being executed by burning in 1314. His stoic death inspired myths, including the infamous “curse” on Philip and Clement, both of whom died soon after. While these legends reflect enduring fascination with the Templars, historical accounts emphasize de Molay’s steadfastness in the face of injustice, securing his legacy as a martyr for chivalric ideals and Masonic tradition.
