Good evening Quarrymen
This weekend, as voted by our wonderful channel members will be asking the question ‘What do we really mean when we speak of the “ancient penalties” in Freemasonry—and have we perhaps misunderstood them all along’?
In this short presentation, K. W. Aldridge invites us to pause and reflect on a subject that has long attracted controversy, urging a reconsideration of these passages not as literal survivals, but as part of a wider symbolic language once common to oaths, professions, and public life. Rather than arguing for or against change outright, the talk poses a deeper question: what is lost, or preserved, when symbolism is stripped of its historical and moral context?
It is a thoughtful prompt for reflection on tradition, meaning, and the careful balance between continuity and reform within the Craft.
